I spent some time as a research diver aboard the RV Seward Johnson out of Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute. Nothing like diving in zero visibility at 100’, feeling the nearby dolphins sonar pulses in our chests. “What the hell are these humans doing down here in the dark?”

For a time I was a marine scientist, which had been an ambition of mine since grade school. The years I spent in school, doing fieldwork, research SCUBA dives, and immersing myself in the study of the ocean were some of the best of my life.
I’ve taken a break as a volunteer SCUBA diver at the Tennessee Aquarium in Chattanooga, TN. Life got busy but I’ll be back.
